Agave univittata 'Quadricolor'

Agave lophantha 'Quadricolor', 'Quadricolor' Agave, Quadricolor Century Plant, Agave univittata Variegated, Agave kerchovei 'Pectinata', 'Goshiki Bandai'

An exquisite small Agave, Agave univittata 'Quadricolor' is a highly ornamental evergreen succulent forming colorful rosettes of toothed, strikingly-striped leaves about 6-12 in. long (15-30 cm). Dark green in their center, the leaves are adorned with a pale green mid-stripe and golden-yellow edges, which are lined with a row of dark reddish teeth. When exposed to bright sun, they redden - hence, the name 'Quadricolor'. Under cold or drought, the leaves add lovely shades of pink to red, further enhancing the colorful display. This Agave looks terrific when planted in multiples. As an added bonus, it produces many offsets that can be re-planted elsewhere.

  • Grows up to 12-18 in. tall (30-45 cm) and 2 ft. wide (60 cm).
  • Easily grown in sandy or gravelly, moist or dry, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerates part shade, particularly in hot desert gardens where light shade will prevent scorching of the foliage. Keep in a frost-free area in winter and put it out on the patio or balcony in summer. Tolerates dry conditions but will grow faster with regular summer irrigation - keep drier in winter. Drought tolerant.
  • Great for beds and borders, city gardens, rock gardens, succulent gardens, or Mediterranean gardens. Ideal as an accent plant in sunny borders or in decorative containers.
  • Deer resistant
  • Virtually disease free. Watch for slugs and snails.
  • Propagate by offsets taken in spring or fall
