Aptly named, Athyrium niponicum ‘Godzilla’ (Japanese Painted Fern) is a striking deciduous fern forming a massive rosette of arching, silvery fronds accented by green highlights and dark purple stems. Slowly spreading, this giant painted fern is easy to grow and lovely when paired with hostas and heucheras.

  • Grows up to 2-3 ft. tall (60-90 cm) and 4-6 ft. wide (120-180 cm). 
  • Thrives in part to full shade, in fertile, humus-rich, neutral to moderately acidicmoist, but well-drained soils. Provide a sheltered location.
  • This plant is a great choice for shady beds and borders, cottage gardens, woodland gardens.
  • Low maintenance, virtually pest and disease free. Rabbit resistant.
  • Dead or damaged fronds may be removed as necessary.
  • Propagate by division in spring
