Begonia 'Looking Glass' (Cane Begonia)

Exceptionally beautiful, Begonia 'Looking Glass' is an upright, evergreen perennial noted for its eye-catching foliage of large, silvery leaves, up to 12 in. long (30 cm), adorned with olive-green veins and cranberry-red undersides. In late spring and summer, attractive clusters of pink flowers are an added bonus. Fast-growing, it makes a valuable contribution to shady landscapes or containers.

  • Grows up to 24 in. tall and wide (60 cm).
  • Prefers part shade and fertile, moist, and well-drained soils. Will not tolerate continuous direct sunlight or waterlogging. Water moderately when in growth and apply a balanced liquid fertilizer at alternative waterings. Applying winter mulch will increase survivability in borderline areas.
  • Cut back over-long canes to 2 or 3 buds in late spring.
  • Propagate by stem cuttings.
  • Watch for caterpillars, mealybugs, thrips, vine weevils, powdery mildews, stem rot, and rhizome rot.
  • Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses.
