Begonia solananthera (Brazilian Heart Begonia)

Brazilian Heart Begonia

Noted for its winter blooms and sweet fragrance, Begonia solananthera (Brazilian Heart Begonia) is a scandent (climbing) species found in Brazil in 1859. It sports heart-shaped, glossy green, evergreen leaves, about 2 in. long (5 cm), and delightfully scented clusters of pearly white flowers, which dangle from the leaf axils. Blooming profusely in late winter and early spring, the blossoms are adorned with crimson centers, hence the common name of 'Brazilian heart'. The cascading habit of this Begonia species makes it perfect for hanging baskets. This lovely Begonia will richly reward the grower for his care.
