Clematis armandii (Evergreen Group)

Clematis armandii is a large, vigorous evergreen climber with masses of almond-scented, star-shaped cream-white flowers, 2 in. across (5 cm), adorned with creamy stamens in early to mid-spring. The flowers are so prolifically produced that they smother the foliage of leathery, dark glossy green trifoliate leaves, 6 in. long (15 cm). The blossoms attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, which makes this evergreen clematis a great addition to butterfly and pollinator gardens. Armand Clematis is perfect for covering a wall, trellis, fence, or pergola. Rattling in the wind, the heavy leaves overlap nicely and form a lovely screen year-round. Plant it where you can enjoy its perfume: near a doorway, along a path, near your patio or deck. A terrific plant providing months of enjoyment.

• Quickly grows up to 15-30 ft. long (450-900 cm) and 10-15 ft. wide (300-450 cm).
• Thrives in moist, well-drained soils in full sun. Ideally, Clematis prefer having their ‘heads in the sun and their feet in the shade’. Keep the roots cool and shaded by other plants, or add a layer of pebbles or flat stones at the base. Provide a sheltered site, out of the way of cold, drying winds.

• This Clematis belongs to the first group of Clematis – a group including Early-flowering clematis, which flower on shoots produced in the previous summer: No regular pruning is required. Just clean them up after flowering.
