Planting Roses, Rose Gardening, Designing with Roses, English Roses

Planting Roses, Rose Gardening, Designing with Roses, English Roses, Garden retreat, garden roses, Rose bushes, English Roses, Rose Mme Caroline Testout, Rose A Shropshire Lad, Rose James Galway, Clematis Viola

With its rich purple blooms, Clematis ‘Viola’ is a favorite among many gardeners, especially in combination with repeat-flowering climbing Roses. Here this pretty Clematis partners magnificently with the pink Rose ‘Mme Caroline Testout’.
If you have difficulties finding ‘Mme Caroline Testout’, we suggest 2 lovely alternatives for similar results but with more fragrance: Rose ‘Shropshire Lad’ or Rose ‘James Galway’. Their scent will hang beautifully in the air! Enjoy!

Climbing roses and clematis are perfect companions. They happily share the same arch or trellis, both reaching for the sun. They have the same natural needs, require the same growing conditions, and benefit from the same fertilizers. They are often of similar sizes with the result that neither swamps the other. They also complement one another. While the fragrance is rare in Large Flowered clematis, it is fairly common in roses. When combined, they often look many times more beautiful than on a standalone basis.
