Chinese Forget-Me-Not

AGM Award
Cynoglossum amabile, Chinese Forget-Me-Not, Blue Flowers, Purple Flowers, Spring Perennial

Resembling forget-me-nots, Cynoglossum amabile (Chinese Forget-Me-Not) is a bushy annual or biennial with beautiful sprays of funnel-shaped sky-blue flowers from late spring to the first frost. Blooming in the first year from seed, they are borne on stems that elongate as successive blossoms appear. The stems are clothed with hairy lance-shaped gray-green leaves. Chinese Forget-Me-Not is typically grown as a cool weather annual plant and may decline in summer in hot and humid summer climates and stop blooming.

  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society.
  • Grows up to 12-24 in. tall (30-60 cm) and 10-12 in. wide (25-30 cm). Will freely self-seed in the garden.
  • Easily grown in moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soils in sun. Appreciates some afternoon shade in hot summer climates.
  • Great for beds and borders, cottage gardens, rock gardens, prairies, and meadows.
  • Virtually pest and disease free. Keep an eye out for powdery mildews.
  • Cut back after flowering.
  • Propagate by seed sown in situ in spring.
  • Toxic to horses.
  • Native to Southeast Asia.
