Noted for its luminous and attractive foliage, Elaeagnus x submacrophylla 'Gilt Edge' (Oleaster) is a vigorous evergreen shrub adorned with broadly-ovate dark green leaves edged with brilliant gold. It produces small, sweetly fragrant, silvery flowers in late summer to early fall, which are attractive to bees and butterflies. They are sometimes followed by red berries. Tough and adaptable, Elaeagnus x submacrophylla 'Gilt Edge' (Oleaster) is often used in hedges as it can be easily shaped to meet the need. Perfect to brighten a dark spot in the garden!

- Grows up to 5-6 ft. tall and wide (150-180 cm).
- A full sun to partial shade lover, this plant is easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Tolerates a wide range of conditions including full shade, dry soils and coastal winds. Drought tolerant once established.
- Extremely versatile and low maintenance, this Oleaster may be used in beds and borders, as a hedge or screen, as an edging plant along paths, in city gardens, coastal gardens or cottage gardens.
- Usually pest free, but keep an eye for elaeagnus sucker. May be affected by coral spot or a leaf spot.
- Blooms in summer and late fall on the previous or current year's growth. Needs little pruning. Prune lightly removing unsightly shoots as required in mid- to late spring.
- Propagate by semi-hardwood cuttings.
