Eucalyptus coccifera (Tasmanian Snow Gum)

Tasmanian Snow Gum, Mount Wellington Peppermint

Eucalyptus coccifera (Tasmanian Snow Gum) is a spreading, evergreen tree boasting beautiful twisted branches and striking, smooth mottled bark, a lovely mix of light gray to creamy-white, often tinged with pink. The peppermint scented foliage is heart-shaped when juvenile, lance-shaped, blue-green when adult. It is borne on magnificent scarlet red stems. In summer, abundant clusters of creamy-white flowers are borne amongst the foliage. This Eucalyptus tolerates exposed conditions and has a high tolerance to frost and to drought. It is prized as a garden specimen for its decorative trunk, ornamental bark and elegant foliage.

  • Grows up to 30-50 ft. tall (9-15 m) and 20-30 ft. wide (6-9 m). Usually grows 3-4 ft. per year (90-120 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun in fertile, neutral to slightly acid soil that does not dry out.
  • Easy to grow, easy to care for.
  • Watch for eucalyptus sucker, silver leaf and oedema.
  • Propagate by seed.
  • Native to Tasmania.
