Fragaria ‘Chandler’ (Junebearing Strawberry) is an early season heavily-cropping cultivar producing some of the largest strawberries. Glossy and firm, they vary from being long and wedge-shaped to large and conical. They have an exceptional flavor. Great fresh, they also freeze very well. Five-petaled white flowers adorned with yellow centers appear in early spring and give way to the berries which ripen around the month of June, hence the name. Tremendously popular, Junebearers produce the largest strawberries, and do so over a period of 2-3 weeks. May remain evergreen in frost-free areas.

A strawberry patch is ravishing with its small mounds of fresh, green, pleated leaves which hide dangling, ruby-red fruits begging to be picked and enjoyed. This Junebearing Strawberry can be successfully grown in a container too. Excellent for pie, fresh eating and jams.

Strawberry varieties are classified into Early Season, Midseason, and Late Season. By selecting strawberry plant varieties that produce during different parts of the season, you can prolong your harvest and enjoy fresh strawberries for an extended period of time.

  • Grows up to 8-10 in. tall (20-25 cm) and 8-12 in. wide (20-30 cm).
  • A full sun lover, this plant is best grown in fertile, moist, well-drained soils. Plant in single or double rows 18-24 in. between plants (45-60cm) and 36-48 in. between rows (90-120cm).
  • Strawberries are susceptible to quite a few issues such as foliage diseases, root rots (red stele, black root rot), fruit rots (anthracnose, leather rot), verticillium wilt, gray mold, viruses and scorch. Tarnished plant bug, mites, aphids, leafrollers, slugs, nematodes and strawberry weevils are occasional insect pests.
  • Propagation: Remove and transplant runners.
