Fuchsia ‘Ballet Girl’

A very old cultivar, award-winning Fuchsia ‘Ballet Girl’ is an excellent, strong-growing, bushy cultivar with medium to large double flowers adorned with bright cerise sepals and white corollas exquisitely marked with red veining. Blooming non-stop from early summer to fall, the flowers stand out against the mid- to dark green serrated foliage. Attractive to bees and hummingbirds, the strong upright growth habit of this pretty flowering shrub makes it a perfect candidate for training as a full or half standard.

• Grows up to 18 in. tall (45 cm) and 30 in. wide (75 cm).
• A full sun to part shade lover, this plant is best grown in moist, fertile, well-drained soils. Provide a deep winter mulch and shelter from cold drying winds. Protect from the afternoon sun in hot climates.
• Perfect for beds and borders and containers.
• In early to mid-spring cut back the previous year’s flowering stems to within one or two buds of the older woody framework. Also remove any thin, weak or dead growth.
• Stem cuttings are by far the easiest way of propagating fuchsias.
• Watch for rust, capsid bug and caterpillars.
• Standard types: Mini Standard – 6 to 10 inches (15-25 cm); Quarter Standard – 10 to 18 inches (25-45 cm); Half Standard – 18 to 30 inches (45-75 cm) and Full Standard – 30 to 42 inches (75- 105 cm). These measurements are taken from the compost level to where the bottom branch leaves the stem.
