Well-behaved and luminescent, Illicium parviflorum BananAppeal® (Small Anise) is a compact evergreen shrub of rounded habit, noted for its golden yellow foliage of elliptic leaves. Aromatic, the shimmering foliage exudes an anise aroma when crushed or bruised. Unlike the species, this selection does not sucker and does not send out long gangly shoots. A small evergreen shrub that is great to brighten up a difficult wet and shady area. Perfect for small gardens.

  • Grows up to 3-4 ft. tall and wide (90-120 cm).
  • A part shade lover, this plant is easily grown in moist soils. Tolerates erosion and wet planting sites.
  • Generally pest and disease free.
  • Propagate by semi-ripe cuttings in summer.
  • Both the foliage and fruit are poisonous to livestock.
