Providing year-round interest, Illicium parviflorum ‘Florida Sunshine’ (Small Anise) is a compact evergreen shrub of rounded habit, noted for its chartreuse golden foliage of elliptic leaves, which turns hot yellow in the fall. Aromatic, the shimmering foliage exudes an anise aroma when crushed or bruised. Unlike the species, this selection does not sucker and does not send out long gangly shoots. A small evergreen shrub that is great to brighten up a difficult wet and shady area. Perfect for small gardens.

  • Grows up to 4-8 ft. tall (120-240 cm) and 2-3 ft. wide (60-90 cm).
  • A part shade lover, this plant is easily grown in moist soils. Tolerates erosion, heat, and wet planting sites.
  • Generally pest and disease free.
  • Propagate by semi-ripe cuttings in summer.
  • Prune in early spring before first flush.
  • Both the foliage and fruit are poisonous to livestock.
