Tall Bearded Iris 'Yaquina Blue', Iris Germanica 'Yaquina Blue', Mid-Season Irises
Vigorous and extravagantly ruffled, multiple award-winner Iris ‘Yaquina Blue’ displays such a fresh, marine blue coloration that no garden should be without it. Reminiscent of the surging waves of the Yaquina Bay in Oregon, the wide, rounded blossoms, 4 in. wide (10 cm), of this spectacular Tall Bearded Iris never fail to capture the attention of the onlooker, whether in the garden or at home where they enjoy a long vase life. Recognized as one of the ‘best of the best’ of Bearded Irises via the Dykes Medal, the breathtaking flowers of this midseason Iris are held on sturdy stems and rise elegantly up to 37 inches high (92 cm) atop the lovely sword-shaped foliage which will continue to add interest in the landscape after flowering is over.
Easy to grow, it is deer and rabbit resistant, and quite drought tolerant once established.
Bearded irises are classified by height and flower size into 6 groups. Since these groups bloom at slightly different times, combining specimens from different groups will extend your color display for a couple of weeks.
