Omphalodes verna (Blue-Eyed Mary)
Blue-Eyed Mary, Creeping Forget-Me-Not, Venus's Buttons
Resembling Myosotis, Omphalodes verna (Blue-Eyed Mary) is a charming semi-evergreen perennial ground cover which sends forth sprays of white-eyed, bright blue flowers reminiscent of forget-me-not from late winter to early spring. Each brilliant, tiny flower is highlighted against the oval, fresh, spring-green leaves. Ideal for a shady border to weave through shrubs and perennials or to hide the fading foliage of spring bulbs. Vigorous, plant it in large drifts to create a sea of blue.
- Reaching 6-12 in. in height (15-30 cm), this native to the mountains of Europe spreads 9-12 in. (22-30 cm).
- It is resilient to most pests and diseases and is easy to care for. A remarkably low-maintenance plant, this excellent performer looks spectacular when grown among spring bulbs or naturalized in woodlands.
- A part shade lover, it thrives in rich, moist, well-drained soils.
- Propagate by seed or by division
