Very aromatic, award-winning Pelargonium odoratissimum (Apple Geranium) is a low-growing evergreen tender perennial with a short main stem and trailing flowering branches. They are clothed with rounded, apple-scented, light green leaves, up to 2 in. across (5 cm). The leaves are covered with fine short hairs making them soft to the touch. Blooming from spring to summer (throughout the year except for midsummer in its native environment), small star-shaped white flowers are produced in clusters above the fragrant foliage. Their two upper petals are adorned with red veins. Perfect for containers and small spaces, Apple Geranium can be grown successfully indoors too.

  • Grows up to 10-12 in. tall (20-30 cm) and 24-36 in. wide (60-90 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun in fertile, neutral to alkaline, well-drained soils. Afternoon shade is appreciated in hot climates. Provide good ventilation, and water moderately during the growing season from spring to summer, and only sparingly in winter. Drought tolerant, once established.
  • Perfect addition to beds and borders, city gardens, coastal gardens, cottage gardens, Mediterranean gardens, or containers.
  • Keep an eye out for vine weevil larvae, leafhopper, root mealybugs, whitefly, gray molds, pelargonium rust, and leafy gall.
  • Deadhead and remove yellowing leaves. Propagate by seed, sown in late winter and grown in a protected environment such as a heated greenhouse, or by softwood cuttings from spring to autumn.
  • Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses.
  • Native to South Africa
