Rosa Oso Easy Double Red (Groundcover Rose)
Rose Oso Easy Double Red, Rosa 'Meipeporia', USPP 26,298, Oso Easy® Rose, Shrub Roses, Groundcover Roses
Self cleaning and very disease resistant, Rosa Oso Easy Double Red is a lush mounding shrub rose boasting a profusion of deep red double flowers. The blossoms are held on long stems, well above the healthy, glossy dark green foliage. Thanks to its excellent resistance to powdery mildew and black spot, this shrub rose remains great-looking all season long. Blooming continuously from summer to frost, the showy flowers entice passing butterflies to use them as perfect landing pads. Floriferous, easy to grow, low maintenance, cold-hardy, this shrub rose brings cheerful color to the garden or landscape. Perfect for mixed borders and beds or as a flowering groundcover.
- Winner of Bagatelle Rose Trials 1er Prix, Prize of the Public and Certificat de Mérite; Le Roeulx Rose Trials Gold Medal; Lyon Rose Trials 1st Prize and Prize for Rebloom and Disease Resistance; Monza Rose Trials City of Monza Prize and Gold Medal.
- Grows up to 36-48 in. tall and wide (90-120 cm).
- Best grown in full sun in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil. For best flowering apply a balanced fertilizer and mulch in late winter or early spring and a balanced fertilizer again in early summer. Salt tolerant.
- An excellent choice for beds and borders, city gardens, coastal gardens, cottage gardens or as a colorful groundcover.
- Keep an eye out for aphids, rose leafhopper, scale insects, caterpillars, large rose sawfly, rose leaf-rolling sawfly, black spot, rose rust and rose powdery mildew.
- Pruning is generally not needed, but this shrub may be shaped in spring. It does not need spraying.
- Propagate by hardwood cuttings in autumn or by chip budding in summer.
