Groundcover Roses - Guides

Groundcover roses, also called carpet roses, are low-growing, spreading shrubs that create a dense, flowering mat. These roses bloom profusely from late spring until frost, providing months of continuous color with minimal care. Unlike hybrid tea roses or grandiflora roses, which require frequent pruning and maintenance, groundcover roses thrive with little attention. Their cascading habit makes them ideal for slopes, banks, retaining walls, and large garden beds.

Why Choose Groundcover Roses? Groundcover roses offer exceptional disease resistance and require minimal upkeep, making them perfect for beginner and seasoned gardeners alike. Their dense foliage also suppresses weeds, reducing the need for frequent weeding.

Size & Growth Habit: Most varieties grow between 1-3 feet (0.3-0.9 meters) in height but can spread up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) wide, forming an expansive floral display. Their trailing stems create a natural, flowing look, making them excellent for erosion control on slopes.

Flowering & Color: These roses bloom in clusters of small to medium-sized flowers in a variety of colors, from soft pastels to deep, rich tones. One of the most popular options is Drift Roses, which are compact, hardy, and continuously blooming.

Perfect for mass plantings, borders, and challenging terrain, groundcover roses provide long-lasting color and effortless beauty in any garden setting.
