Weigela florida 'Bristol Ruby' is a deciduous shrub of upright habit with narrowly ovate, dark green leaves. In late spring to early summer, showy, ruby-red flowers are produced in great quantities and literally cover the foliage. This plant may flower sporadically during the summer into fall. The bell-shaped flowers are adored by hummingbirds. Easy to grow, this flowering shrub is the perfect choice for as a specimen plant, for shrub borders or flowering hedges.
- Grows up to 4-8 ft. tall (120-240 cm) and 4-6 ft. wide (120-180 cm).
- A full sun to part shade lover, this plant is best grown in moist, well-drained soils.
- Plant as a specimen or in small groups. Perfect for borders, foundation plantings or hedges.
- Pruning is best done immediately after flowering; little pruning is needed.
- Generally disease free. Watch for leaf and bud eelworms. Seldom severely damaged by deer.
- Propagate by softwood cuttings in early summer, semi-ripe cuttings in summer or hardwood cuttings in late autumn and winter.
