Coronilla valentina subsp. glauca 'Citrina' (Glaucous Scorpion-Vetch)
Glaucous Scorpion-Vetch 'Citrina', Bastard Senna 'Citrina', Coronilla glauca 'Citrina', Coronilla valentina 'Citrinus', Coronilla valentina 'Sulphurea'
Glowing and shimmering in the sunny border, Coronilla valentina subsp. glauca 'Citrina' (Glaucous Scorpion-Vetch) is a small bushy evergreen shrub with pale-lemon, pea-shaped flower clusters in rounded heads of up to 15 flowers. Rich of a sweet peach fragrance, they are borne on short stems in a rounded umbel-shaped head, which forms a crown - thus, coronilla. Blooming continuously from mid spring to early summer in warm winter areas, late winter to late spring in cooler areas, the blossoms contrast nicely with the attractive foliage of blue-gray, pinnate leaves and add cheerful color during the dull days of winter. Forming a low-growing shrub with a spidery growth habit, this charming Mediterranean native makes an extraordinary wall shrub or background plant.
- Winner of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society for its noteworthy qualities.
- Grows up to 2-3 ft. high and wide (60-90 cm).
- Easily grown in light, well-drained soils in full sun. Will tolerate a range of soil types as long as they are in a sheltered, sunny position.
- Drought tolerant and deer resistant
- Great for beds and borders, wall-side borders, banks and slopes, cottage gardens, rock gardens, Mediterranean gardens or in containers.
- Virtually disease and pest free
- Propagate by seed or semi-hardwood cuttings
- Cut back after flowering to prevent ungainly growth.
