Everblooming, award-winner Dicentra ‘Luxuriant’ (Fern-Leaf Bleeding Heart) is a compact herbaceous perennial adorned with a blue-green, finely divided foliage and arching sprays of nodding, heart-shaped, cerise-pink flowers. Blooming over a very long season extending from late spring to early fall, the flowers dangle gracefully above the lush foliage mound. ‘Luxuriant’ is more sun and heat tolerant than most bleeding heart varieties. Excellent for edging, and very useful for containers.

  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society for its outstanding merits
  • Grows up to 12-15 in. tall (30-37 cm) and 12-18 in. wide (30-45 cm).
  • Thrives in part shade and is easily grown in fertile, humus-rich, preferably neutral or slightly alkaline, moist but well-drained soils. Will tolerate a sunny site if the soil is kept consistently moist.
  • Great for beds and borders, edging, banks and slopes, city gardens, coastal gardens, cottage gardens, underplanting shrubs.
  • No serious pest or disease issues. Keep an eye out for slugs and snails. Deer and rabbit resistant.
  • Propagate by division in early spring or after the leaves have died down.
  • If ingested, all parts may cause stomach upset, the foliage may aggravate skin allergies. Wear gloves and other protective equipment when handling. Bleeding Heart plants are not only toxic to humans but animals as well. Although aesthetically pleasing, this plant contains soquinoline alkaloids. Alkaloids negatively affect animals, most commonly cattle, sheep, and dogs.
