Glowing in the garden, Lonicera nitida ‘Baggesen’s Gold’ (Box Honeysuckle) is a dense, spreading, evergreen shrub with long, arching stems clothed in small, ovate, golden-yellow leaves that turn chartreuse in the fall. Tiny cream flowers appear in spring, which are eventually followed in fall by purple berries. Fast-growing, this Box Honeysuckle is quite versatile. It may be used as a groundcover, as a shrub in mixed borders, topiaries or as a beautiful hedge. A pretty substitute for boxwood and a great addition to the winter garden.

  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society.
  • Grows up to 4-6 ft. tall and wide (120-180 cm).
  • A full sun to part shade lover, this plant is best grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Golden in sun, the foliage turns chartreuse in part shade. This plant is widely soil adaptable but thrives in fertile, moist soil that will not dry out in winter.
  • Excellent choice for mixed borders, hedges, edging. Tolerant of salt spray, it is a nice addition to coastal gardens.
  • Low maintenance, this plant is generally pest and disease free.
  • If grown as hedging or for topiary, clip any time from spring to fall. Otherwise, prune immediately after flowering.
  • Propagate by semi-ripe cuttings from late spring to late summer
