Crabapple 'Liset', Crab Apple 'Liset', Malus 'Liset'
A prolific bloomer, Malus ‘Liset’ is a dense, compact, rounded, deciduous tree with a very open habit. Opening from bright crimson-red buds, masses of fragrant, rich rose-red flowers appear in pretty clusters in late spring. They are followed by abundant, very dark red, cherry-like fruits, 1/2 in. (1.2 cm), that mature in the fall. Attractive to birds, they are not winter-persistent. It produces longitudinal cracks on some of its heavier branches, but they heal the same season they appear. The foliage of oval leaves emerges purplish in spring and changes to dark bronze-green throughout the growing season. It is a fabulous landscape tree for any garden, one of the showiest flowering crabapples with good to excellent disease resistance.
