Crabapple 'Red Jade', Crab Apple 'Red Jade', Malus 'Red Jade'
An outstanding Crabapple, Malus ‘Red Jade’ is a small deciduous tree with gracefully weeping branches over a long season of interest. Opening from pink buds, masses of fragrant, white, single flowers appear in mid-spring, just as the foliage unfolds. Draped in clusters along the cascading branches, they provide a lovely display. The flowers are followed by abundant, glossy, bright red fruits, 1/2 in. (1.2 cm), that mature in fall and persist well into winter. Attractive to birds, the fruits may be harvested for jellies. The handsome foliage of glossy, jade green leaves turns yellow in the fall. This flowering crabapple needs room to develop to perfection with its slender weeping branches. Subject to scab, fire blight, and powdery mildew in some areas. Good rust resistance.
