Weeping White Mulberry, White Mulberry 'Pendula', Silkworm Mulberry 'Pendula'
Morus alba ‘Pendula’ (Weeping White Mulberry) is a small, gracefully weeping deciduous tree with curtain-like, gnarled branches sometimes kissing the ground – and enclosing a fun hideout for children. They are clothed with heart-shaped, glossy dark green leaves, that may turn a pleasing yellow in fall. White mulberry is usually dioecious (separate male and female trees). ‘Pendula’ is a female tree with small yellowish-green flowers in drooping catkins. In summer, it bears edible, oval, white fruits ripening to deep pink, dark red or purple-black. ‘Pendula’ is a popular fruiting, weeping form and a compelling garden curiosity. Morus alba ‘Chaparral’ is the nonfruiting male cultivar.
White Mulberry belongs to the Moraceae family, which also includes familiar plants such as figs (Ficus), osage orange (Maclura pomifera), paper mulberry, jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus), and breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis).
