Noted for its creeping habit, Primula 'Perle Von Bottrop' is a compact, evergreen perennial bearing masses of large, regal purple flowers adorned with contrasting, small yellow eyes. Blooming profusely from early to late spring, they literally cover the rosette of bright green leaves. This hybrid primrose spreads by creeping rhizomes to form small, attractive clumps. Perfect for the rock garden.
- Grows up to 2-6 in. tall (5-15 cm) and 6-10 in. wide (15-25 cm).
- A part shade to full shade lover, it is best grown in humus-rich, moderately fertile, consistently moist, well-drained soils. Tolerates full sun in cool summer regions.
- This plant is very versatile and can be used in beds and borders, in cottage gardens, city gardens, near ponds and streams, or in containers. Perfect for edging or underplanting shrubs and roses.
- A low maintenance plant (cut back after flowering). Watch out for pests such as aphids, vine weevil, slugs, leaf and bud eelworms, leaf-mining flies and glasshouse red spider mite. May be subject to leaf spot, primula brown core and grey moulds.
- Propagate by seed or division in autumn and early spring
