Sanguisorba tenuifolia var. alba (Burnet)

Burnet, White Japanese Burnet, White Oriental Burnet, Sanguisorba tenuifolia 'Alba'

Sanguisorba Tenuifolia var. Alba, Burnet, White Japanese Burnet, White Oriental Burnet, Sanguisorba Tenuifolia 'Alba',perennial plant, foliage plant, white flowers

Highly decorative with its profuse and attractive, fluffy, white flowers, rising on tall willowy stems and bobbing in the air, Sanguisorba tenuifolia ‘Alba’ is a prized addition to the garden. Commonly known as White Japanese Burnet, this vigorous perennial features an equally beautiful foliage of intricately cut dark green leaves. This very ornamental plant is a ‘see-through’ plant which may be planted at the front of the border since the tall flower stalks are so airy and delicate that we can see through them to the plants behind.

  • Sanguisorba tenuifolia makes a lovely accent in beds, borders, cottage gardens, city gardens or naturalistic areas such as prairies and meadows. Very useful and adaptable in the garden, it is easy to grow, pest or disease-free, rabbit and deer resistant! Great for cutting too!
  • Reliable, this herbaceous perennial blooms profusely from midsummer to fall and grows in upright, bushy clumps, up to 6 ft. high (180 cm) and 3 ft. across (36 cm).
  • Enjoys full sun or part shade in fertile, moist, well-drained soils.
  • Cut foliage back after flowering is over.
