Torenia fournieri (Wishbone Flower)

Wishbone Flower, Blue Wing Flower, Bluewing

Perfect for shady areas, Torenia fournieri (Wishbone Flower) is a bushy annual boasting masses of two-lipped, trumpet-shaped, bicolor flowers from early summer to the first frosts. Blooming freely all season, each ravishing pale lavender flower is adorned with dark blue-purple lower lips, a yellow throat blotch and a pair of stamens arranged in a wishbone shape. The blossoms contrast nicely against the foliage of toothed, oval, light green leaves. Compact and easy care, Wishbone Flower is incredibly versatile. It is excellent for beds and borders, containers, hanging baskets or window-boxes and a lovely addition to the woodland garden.

  • Grows up to 6-12 in. tall (15-30 cm) and 6-9 in. wide (15-22 cm).
  • Extremely easy to grow, Wishbone Flower thrives in part shade or full shade in consistently moist, organically rich, well-drained soil. Keep roots cool with a mulch.
  • Start seed indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost date or sow seed directly in the garden just before last frost date.
  • Pinch young plants to promote compact, bushier growth. Deadheading not necessary.
  • Virtually pest and disease free. Keep an eye out for root rot and powdery mildew.
  • Native to Asia.
