Veronica longifolia 'Charlotte' (Garden Speedwell)

Garden Speedwell 'Charlotte', Long-Leaved Speedwell 'Charlotte', Beach Speedwell 'Charlotte'

Prized by gardeners for its slender spikes of white, tubular flowers, Veronica longifolia 'Charlotte' (Garden Speedwell) never fails at providing a great display in the summer garden. Extremely showy, the flowers open from the base upward from early to late summer. These elegant inflorescences are very decorative and are nicely complemented by the variegated foliage of lance-shaped, cream-edged, mid-green leaves. If cut back after flowering, it may bloom again in late summer or early fall. This Speedwell selection is reported to have a good resistance to mildew. Ideal near border edges, in containers and the rock garden.

  • Grows up to 2-3 ft. tall (60-90 cm) and 12 in. wide (30 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun, in average, evenly moist, well-drained soils. Will thrive in rich loamy soils. Tolerates light shade
  • Perfect choice for borders, rock gardens, cottage gardens or containers. Exceptional as cut flowers
  • Easy to grow, Speedwell requires very little care and is fairly pest and disease-free (some susceptibility to mildew). It is attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds, but resistant to rabbits and deer.
  • Remove spent flowers to promote additional blooms. Midsummer shearing after the first flowering encourages healthy new basal foliage as well as late summer flowering.
