Suitable for small gardens, Cornus Venus (Dogwood) is a vigorous, spreading small deciduous tree with many seasons of interest. In spring, a profusion of huge, creamy-white flowers, or bracts, 6 in. across (15 cm), cover the tree, creating a striking floral show. The blossoms may be followed by pinkish-red, strawberry-like fruit later in the season. Its canopy of layered branches, clad with glossy green, oval to egg-shaped leaves, provides shade and beauty in summer. In the fall, it offers spectacular bright colors when its foliage turns attractive shades of yellow, red, orange, and purple. Cornus Venus is a cross between Cornus kousa and Cornus nuttallii. Small but tough, this dogwood has an excellent tolerance to drought and diseases. Plant this flowering tree as a specimen or in small groupings for a dramatic effect.

  • Grows up to 15-18 ft. tall (450-540 cm) and 18-20 ft. wide (540-600 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun to part shade in organically rich, well-drained soils. Provide consistent moisture during hot summers.
  • Great choice as a specimen near patios or in lawns, shrub borders, woodland gardens, or naturalized areas.
  • Dogwoods are susceptible to a range of pests and diseases.
  • Easy to grow, easy to care for, deer resistant.
  • This Dogwood naturally forms a well-branched framework and requires little or no pruning.
  • Propagate by grafting or from semi-hardwood cuttings.
