A dazzling addition to the spring garden, Forsythia x intermedia Show Off Starlet® is a compact cultivar that lives up to its name by putting on a spectacular display of radiant yellow flowers in the early spring. Unlike traditional Forsythia, which can grow quite large, Show Off Starlet® is more contained, reaching heights and spreads of about 2-3 feet (60-90 cm), making it an excellent choice for small gardens or urban spaces. Its dense, bushy growth is covered in flowers from the base to the tips of each branch, ensuring a vibrant display.

Apart from its bloom, it requires minimal care once established, being both deer resistant and adaptable to a variety of soil conditions. It fits seamlessly into mixed borders, as a standalone specimen, or even in decorative pots.

Beyond its floral brilliance, this Forsythia cultivar remains an attractive green shrub through the summer, serving as a reliable foundational planting.

  • Grows up to 2-3 ft. tall and wide (60-90 cm).
  • A full sun or part shade lover, this plant is best grown in moist but well-drained soils. Best flower production is obtained in full sun. Some drought tolerance once established.
  • Perfect as a specimen plant, for foundations or hedges, in mixed borders, on banks or slopes. Great for cottage gardens.
  • Low maintenance, this plant is deer-resistant and relatively trouble-free.
  • Pests and Diseases: Forsythia is seldom troubled by pests. However, it may be affected by aphids, spider mites, four-lined plant bugs, or Japanese weevils. Forsythia is susceptible to leaf spot, twig blight, and crown gall.
  • Prune after flowering to maintain good form.
  • Propagate by semi-hardwood cuttings.
  • Forsythia x intermedia, commonly known as Border Forsythia, is a hybrid species developed from crossing two Asian Forsythia species, Forsythia suspensa and Forsythia viridissima.
