Juniperus rigida subsp. conferta ‘Blue Pacific’ (Shore Juniper) is a spreading, low-growing, evergreen shrub prized for its lovely, prickly foliage of green needles adorned with blue and silver overtones. Dense, the foliage retains its fantastic color all-year round and does not bronze in winter. This creeping Juniper bears attractive cones that are black and covered with a silver bloom. While low and trailing, it features a light, airy habit in comparison to other ground-hugging junipers and its branches are fairly soft and flexible. Use this cultivar wherever a blue-green ground covering conifer is desired. Excellent choice for use along retaining walls, or anywhere it can be allowed to cascade down over the edges. Heat tolerant.

  • Grows up to 6-12 in. tall (15-30 cm) and eventually spreads to 4-6 ft. (120-180 cm).
  • A full sun lover, this plant is easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Tolerates a wide range of soils including poor soils, dry soils, and sandy soils. Intolerant of wet soils. Drought tolerant once established.
  • Perfect as a specimen shrub, foundation plant, for the rock gardens, or massed to form a bushy groundcover. Great for banks and slopes for erosion control, or cascading over retaining walls.
  • Low maintenance, no pruning required, but you may prune the stems selectively to control spread.
  • Propagate by semi-hardwood cuttings
  • Native to Japan
