False Babystars, Linanthus androsaceus
Leptosiphon androsaceus (False Babystars) is an annual wildflower boasting charming clusters of pink or lavender star-shaped flowers adorned with yellow or white throats. Blooming in mid-spring to early summer, the blossoms are borne atop mostly erect, simple, or few-branched, hairy stems. The oppositely arranged leaves are each divided into small lobes, oval to linear to needlelike. Native to California, primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area, and also in the California Coast Ranges of northern and central California, the Southern Sierra Nevada, and the Peninsular Ranges and Transverse Ranges of southern California, False Babystars grows in chaparral, oak woodland, and grassland habitats. False Babystars is easy to grow, drought tolerant, and requires little care. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant in traditional, native plant, and wildlife gardens.
