Limonium gmelinii, Siberian Statice, Purple Flowers, Drought tolerant flowers,

A vigorous grower, Limonium gmelinii (Siberian Statice) is a clump-forming perennial boasting attractive sprays of tiny papery smoky-blue flowers in mid to late summer. Blooming in a cloud, they add a soft haze and airy touch in the garden. They are borne on slender and multi-branched stems which rise from a basal rosette of broad, flat, rounded, blue-green leaves. Their dry, papery petals retain their color well, making them an excellent choice for fresh-cut flowers or dried arrangements. Attractive to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, Siberian Statice is a relatively easy perennial to cultivate, with few cultural needs.

  • Grows up to 2-3 ft. tall and wide (60-90 cm).
  • Easy to grow, Siberian Statice performs best in full sun in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Drought tolerant once established.
  • A welcomed addition to cottage gardens, coastal gardens, or rock gardens.
  • virtually pest and disease free. Keep an eye out for crown and root rot and make sure you provide good air circulation.
  • Cut back after flowering
  • Propagate by seed in pots outdoors in spring or propagate by division in spring. Seed is the easiest form of propagation. The roots are long and division is difficult.
  • Native to Eastern Europe, Siberia.
