Pittosporum tenuifolium 'Elizabeth' (Kohuhu)

Kohuhu 'Elizabeth', Tawhiwhi 'Elizabeth'

Pittosporum tenuifolium 'Elizabeth' (Kohuhu) is an upright, rounded, evergreen shrub boasting beautiful, oval, wavy-edged, gray-green leaves edged with cream and pink, in all seasons. In winter and cool weather, the pink becomes more pronounced. They provide a luminous and dense variegated foliage year-round. Clusters of fragrant, tiny, dark purple flowers appear in late spring and early summer. While the flowers are inconspicuous, their sweet honey scent fills the air with their perfume. Useful for a color accent in mixed plantings, screens, groupings, and even hedges.

  • Grows up to 6-8 ft. tall (180-240 cm) and 5-6 ft. wide (150-180 cm).
  • Thrives in full sun or part shade in fertile, moist, well-drained soils. Drought tolerant once established.
  • Very versatile, this plant is perfect for beds and borders. Well suited to city gardens, coastal gardens or cottage gardens.
  • Requires little maintenance. No routine pruning necessary. Remove diseased, damaged, congested or crossing shoots.
  • Generally pest free. Keep an eye out for powdery mildews and leaf spot.
  • Propagate by semi-hardwood cuttings in summer.
