Agave 'Blue Glow'
'Blue Glow' Agave
Agave 'Blue Glow' is a slow-growing evergreen succulent which produces elegant rosettes of blue-green, chalky leaves with finely toothed margins adorned with a golden and red ribbon. A striking beauty which is particularly stunning when backlit by the sun with its glowing red and golden margin. It will take over 10 years for this Agave to flower. Then it will die, without forming offsets. This desirable hybrid combines some of the best qualities of its parents: broader leaves, beautiful color of Agave attenuata; smaller size, solitary habit and terminal spine of Agave ocahui. This Agave makes a dramatic focal point or accent and can be used in decorative pots.
- Grows up to 1-2 ft. tall (30-60 cm) and 2-3 ft. wide (60-90 cm).
- Easily grown in slightly acidic, sandy or gravelly, moist or dry, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerates part shade, particularly in hot desert gardens where light shade will prevent scorching of the foliage. Keep in a frost-free area in winter and put it out on the patio or balcony in summer. Water regularly in extreme heat; less water once established. Drought tolerant.
- Great for beds and borders, city gardens, coastal gardens, rock gardens, succulent gardens or Mediterranean gardens. Ideal as an accent plant in sunny borders or in decorative containers.
- Deer resistant
- Virtually disease free. Watch for slugs and snails.
