Sun-loving, easy to grow, hardy, heat and drought-tolerant, False Sunflower ‘Asahi’ (Heliopsis helianthoides) is quite fabulous with its large, double pompon golden yellow flowers! A valuable addition to the landscape with its profusion of bright glowing daisies on display for 6 to 8 weeks all summer until fall, it also features a lovely, bushy foliage that is pleasant to the eye. Use ‘Asahi’ to brighten up a sunny area of the garden or in a vase where they will last a couple of weeks!

  • Grows in upright clumps of stiff, erect branched stems, up to 30 in. tall (75 cm) and 18-24 in. wide (45-60 cm), clad with coarse, serrated, dark green leaves.
  • False Sunflower prefers full sun and enjoys average, dry to medium, well-drained soils. This plant is not fussy about soils and tolerates a wide range including poor ones. However, the best results are obtained in reasonably fertile, consistently moist, and well-drained soils. Light shade is also tolerated, although the plants might tend to flop and hence will require some support.
  • Excellent choice for the perennial borders where their dazzling flowers are welcomed in any color scheme. Perfectly suited to the cutting garden, naturalized plantings, and containers.
  • Attractive to butterflies!
  • Deadhead spent flowers to promote new blooms. Cut back after flowering
