Award-winning Ipheion uniflorum ‘Wisley Blue’ (Spring Starflower) is a small bulbous perennial with sweetly scented, star-shaped, lilac-blue flowers, up to 1.5 in. (4 cm), adorned with a darker stripe on each petal. Blooming in mid to late spring, the dainty blooms rise atop a foliage of onion-scented, narrowly strap-shaped, light green leaves. Easy to grow, Spring Starflowers are best massed in sweeping drifts in lawns, planted under shrubs, along walks or paths, or in rockeries where these charming beauties can be easily admired. Regarded to be one of the easiest bulbs to grow. Plants go dormant by late spring.

  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society for its outstanding qualities
  • Grows up to 3-6 in. tall and wide (7-15 cm). Once established, it naturalizes well and comes back year after year.
  • Easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade.
  • Best planted en masse in sweeping drifts in lawns or under deciduous trees. Also great in clusters in rock gardens or border fronts. Lovely in containers too!
  • Low maintenance, it doesn’t need weeding or deadheading!
  • Deer and critter resistant, it is virtually disease and trouble free. Watch for slugs and snails.
  • Plant the bulbs 2-3 in. deep (5-7 cm) and space 2-4 in. apart (5-10 cm) in fall.
  • Propagate by seed, sown in pots in a cold frame when ripe (cultivars may not come true from seed) or by division in summer when dormant
  • Native to Argentina and Uruguay
