Osteospermum ‘4D Violet Ice’ (African Daisy) is a bushy, evergreen, tender perennial with a profusion of pale icy violet daisy flowers adorned with a festive rosette of darker violet quilled petals in their center. Unlike most Osteospermum varieties that close at night, ‘4D Violet Ice’ sumptuous blossoms remain open day and night. In cool summer climates, these beautiful flowers will produce a long-lasting display from spring to frost. In hot summer climates, they will bloom their head off from spring to early summer, stop to a complete standstill during hot, dry weather until the weather turns cool again in the fall. The blooms are borne on upright stems clad with lanceolate green leaves. Early to flower with a compact habit and attractive round shape, it is a great addition to sunny borders and containers where the remarkable blooms will bring a terrific splash of color.

  • Grows with a mounding habit up to 8-12 in. tall (20-30 cm) and 12-16 in. wide (30-40 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun in moderately fertile, evenly moist, well-drained soils. Tolerates drought and neglect but looks better with good garden soil and irrigation. Osteospermums generally dislike hot and humid summers.
  • To be grown as annuals in areas beyond hardiness range
  • Perfect addition for beds and borders, cottage gardens, city gardens, rock gardens, Mediterranean gardens, coastal gardens or containers.
  • Deer and rabbit resistant.
  • Watch for aphids, downy mildew and verticillium wilt.
  • Tip-pinch young plants to promote bushiness. Deadhead spent flowers to prolong bloom. Propagate by softwood cuttings in late spring or semi-hardwood cuttings in late summer.
