Prunus 'The Bride' (Flowering Cherry)

Flowering Cherry 'The Bride', Cherry 'The Bride', Prunus incisa 'The Bride',

Award-winning Prunus 'The Bride' is a small, rounded, deciduous tree boasting pure white, single flowers adorned with bright red anthers in early to mid-spring. Opening from pink buds, the flat, open blooms are quite appealing with their large petals. Born in abundance along the bare branches, they provide a breathtaking floral display. As the flowers wane, the mid-green leaves emerge and create a fresh summer canopy before turning brilliant shades of red and orange in fall. A small shrubby tree that makes a fine specimen for a lawn and is ideal for growing in containers.

  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society
  • Typically grows up to 6-7 ft. tall and wide (2 m).
  • Performs best in full sun in moist, relatively fertile, well-drained soils.
  • Perfect choice as single specimen plants, mixed borders, lawns, and containers.
  • Prune in midsummer if silver leaf is a problem
  • Watch for caterpillars, leaf-mining moths, bullfinches, silver leaf, bacterial canker, and blossom wilt.
  • Propagate by budding or grafting, although softwood cuttings in early summer with bottom heat can be successful.
