Weigela praecox

Weigela praecox, Flowering Shrub, Pink Flowers

The earliest flowering weigela, Weigela praecox is a dense, rounded, deciduous shrub with fragrant clusters of funnel-shaped, rose-pink flowers adorned with yellow throats. Blooming in mid to late spring, the blossoms are attractive to hummingbirds. They stand out against the foliage of ovate, pointed, medium green leaves.

  • Densely-branched, rounded, this flowering shrub grows to 4-6 ft. tall and wide (120-180 cm).
  • Thrives in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerates light shade but best flower production is obtained in full sun.
  • Plant as a specimen or in small groups. Perfect for shrub borders, foundation plantings or as a flowering hedge.
  • Blooms on old wood. Prune to shape immediately after flowering.
  • Generally disease and pest free.
  • Native to Korea, Northeast China and Japan.
