Buddleja × weyeriana ‘Honeycomb’ (Butterfly Bush)

Butterfly Bush 'Honeycomb', Summer Lilac 'Honeycomb'

Buddleja 'Honeycomb', Butterfly Bush 'v', Summer Lilac 'Honeycomb', deciduous shrub, Yellow flowers, fragrant shrub, Yellow Buddleja, Yellow Buddleia

Buddleja × weyeriana ‘Honeycomb’ (Butterfly Bush) is a deciduous shrub with gracefully arching branches, studded with lance-shaped, gray-green leaves and sweetly scented, globular clusters of creamy-yellow flowers. Adorned with an orange eye, the flowers are freely produced from mid-summer through early fall and sometimes to the first frost. A superb, easily-grown Butterfly Bush that is favored by butterflies and provides late summer to fall flowers when few other shrubs are in bloom. Excellent for cutting.

  • Grows with an upright-arching to spreading habit, up to 5-7 ft. tall (150-210 cm) and 4-5 ft. wide (120-150 cm).
  • A full sun lover, this plant is best grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Tolerates a wide range of soil conditions excluding wet conditions. Drought tolerant. This plant will die back in zone 5 but will regrow strongly from the roots.
  • Perfect for shrub borders, coastal gardens, cottage gardens, or city gardens.
  • Flowers attract butterflies and hummingbirds. Deer and rabbit resistant.
  • Prompt removal of spent flower spikes will usually promote blooms until frost.
  • Take softwood cuttings in spring and summer, semi-ripe cuttings from midsummer or root hardwood cuttings from autumn to midwinter and keep frost-free
  • Prune in early to mid-spring to maintain a compact, bushy habit. This Butterfly Bush blooms on both new and old wood, so the loss of top growth to winter weather or late winter pruning will not eliminate flowering for the growing season.
