A garden knock-out when in bloom, Cuphea ‘Starfire Pink’ (Cigar Plant) is a compact, densely branched, evergreen shrub boasting masses of cigar-shaped, pinkish-red, white and violet flowers over a long season. Blooming from late spring to the first frosts, year-round in frost-free climates, the nectar-rich blossoms attract hummingbirds, butterflies and other pollinators. This Cigar Plant selection has a bushy, rounded habit and a pretty foliage of lance-shaped, pointed, olive green leaves. Easy to grow, heat and drought tolerant, disease resistant, it is a terrific addition to sunny garden beds and containers where it creates a dazzling display through the summer. Cuphea ‘Starfire Pink’ is a cross between Cuphea ignea and Cuphea angustifolia.
Cuphea belongs to the Lythraceae family, which also includes popular flowering plants such as crape myrtle (Lagerstroemia), pomegranate (Punica granatum), and purple loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria).
