Dasylirion serratifolium (Desert Spoon) is a very ornamental evergreen succulent boasting a perfectly symmetrical rosette of long, narrow, prominently serrate, blue-green leaves. The leaves can reach 3 ft. in length (90 cm) and are adorned with feathery, tufted ends. The rosette sits on a very short and stocky stem felted with old leaves. In summer, it is topped with a dramatic flowering stalk bearing small creamy white flowers. The flowers are followed by small rounded winged fruits.

  • Adds architectural interest to the garden and slowly grows up to 3-6 ft. tall and wide (90-180 cm).
  • Easily grown in dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. Drought and salt tolerant.
  • Great for beds and borders, city gardens, coastal gardens, cottage gardens or Mediterranean gardens.
  • Virtually pest and disease free, but watch out for scale insects. Deer and rabbit resistant
  • Propagate by seed sown at 21ºC in spring
  • Native to Mexico
