Fuchsia 'Celia Smedley'
Standard Fuchsia
Quick growing and vigorous, award-winning Fuchsia 'Celia Smedley' is an excellent upright Fuchsia cultivar with medium to large single flowers adorned with spreading, pale pink sepals and a bright strawberry-red corolla. Blooming non-stop from early summer to fall, the vibrant flowers hang heavily from the branches and contrast well with the large mid-green leaves. Attractive to bees and hummingbirds, this flowering shrub makes a terrific full or half standard or a great container plant.
- Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society.
- Grows up to 36 in. tall (90 cm) and 24 in. wide (60 cm).
- A full sun to part shade lover, this plant is best grown in moist, fertile, well-drained soils. Provide a deep winter mulch and shelter from cold drying winds. Protect from the afternoon sun in hot climates.
- Perfect for containers.
- In early to mid-spring cut back the previous year's flowering stems to within one or two buds of the older woody framework. Also remove any thin, weak or dead growth.
- Stem cuttings are by far the easiest way of propagating fuchsias.
- Watch for rust, capsid bug and caterpillars.
- Standard types: Mini Standard - 6 to 10 inches (15-25 cm); Quarter Standard - 10 to 18 inches (25-45 cm); Half Standard - 18 to 30 inches (45-75 cm) and Full Standard - 30 to 42 inches (75- 105 cm). These measurements are taken from the compost level to where the bottom branch leaves the stem.
