Changing color with the seasons, x Heucherella ‘Alabama Sunrise’ (Foamy Bells) is a compact perennial forming a showy mound of bright gold feathery leaves with distinctive red veins in spring, chartreuse leaves adorned with red veins in midsummer, and warm shades of orange-pink or coral in the fall. In late spring, sprays of small white flowers are borne on slender stems rising up to 20 in. (50 cm) above the foliage. A vigorous grower that is a great choice for adding drama to mixed containers, rock gardens, and the front of the border. Noted for its tolerance to heat and humidity, it is evergreen in mild climates.

  • Grows up to 12-20 in. tall (30-50 cm) with a spread of 20 in. (50 cm).
  • Performs best in fertile, moist, but well-drained soil in partial shade or shade. Mulch annually.
  • A spectacular addition to beds and borders, woodland gardens, and rock gardens and is ideal as an edger along paths or in containers. Fabulous when planted in groups!
  • Remove stems of faded flowers and dead leaves.
  • Keep an eye out for vine weevils and rust diseases.
  • Propagate by division in autumn.
  • Divide every few years.
