Lonicera x heckrottii 'Gold Flame' (Honeysuckle)

Honeysuckle 'Gold Flame', Gold Flame Honeysuckle, Coral Honeysuckle

Richly fragrant, Lonicera x heckrottii 'Gold Flame' (Honeysuckle) is a twining deciduous vine with large, 2 in. long (4 cm), tubular flowers of rare beauty. Flushed deep pink on the outside, they open to reveal orange-yellow throats. Produced profusely from early summer to fall, the highly scented flowers may give way to inedible red berries. Vigorous, this honeysuckle has a foliage of oval, blue-green leaves with contrasting reddish stems. Regarded as a highly disease resistant hybrid and considered one of the finest selections.

  • Winner of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society
  • Grows up to 10-15 ft. tall (3-5 m) and 3-6 ft. wide (90-180 cm). May be grown as a twining vine or pruned back to form a dense shrub.
  • A full sun to part shade lover, this plant is best grown in fertile, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Needs good air circulation to avoid powdery mildew issues.
  • Excellent choice for covering walls, fences, trellises, pergolas.
  • Low maintenance, this plant is deer resistant and generally pest and disease free. Watch for aphids and powdery mildew.
  • Prune as needed to keep the plant tidy and confined within its area.
