Heavily fragrant with fresh lime green flowers, Nicotiana ‘Lime Green’ is a delightful variety of Flowering Tobacco that is easy to mix with any color in the garden. Resembling small trumpets, 5 in. long (12 cm), the lime chartreuse flowers are borne on long, slender stems that rise up from a lovely basal rosette of spoon-shaped leaves. They look best in light shade or in the evening, when their fragrance is particularly noticeable, as their blossoms close in bright sunlight. Blooming over a reasonably long period, from summer until fall, this Nicotiana is perfect for brightening partially shaded borders!

  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society
  • This tender perennial is winter hardy to zones 10-11. Therefore, it is grown as an annual in cooler zones.
  • Fairly pest-free and low maintenance, add this charming and graceful plant to the landscape, and you will be rewarded with abundant, happy butterflies, hummingbirds, and pollinating insects!
  • Vigorously growing up to 1-3 ft. high (30-90 cm) and spreading up to 1-2 ft. (30-60 cm), Nicotiana is an ideal addition to beds and borders or containers. Plant it near a patio or near a porch, where you will enjoy the scent of their fragrance in the evening! Excellent as cut flowers!
  • Performs best in full sun or part shade, in rich, moist, well-drained soils.
  • May be grown from seeds in fall or spring. Sow seeds outdoors after all danger of frost has passed or indoors 6-8 weeks prior to the last spring frost date. Will freely self-seed under satisfying growing conditions.
  • Ingestion may cause severe discomfort. Wear gloves and wash your hands after handling.
  • Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses, toxic to humans. Nicotiana is deer-resistant.

Nicotiana are perennial plants that belong to the Solanaceae family and are mostly native to Brazil or Argentina. Usually grown as annuals or semi-evergreen shrubs, they are terrific plants cumulating many qualities: long blooming season, a rich variety of flower shapes and colors, delightful fragrance, high versatility as they may be grown in full sun or shady areas, ability to naturalize via generous self-sowing. A plant that should be in every garden!
