Prized for its ornamental foliage and floral display, Viburnum sargentii ‘Onondaga’ (Sargent Viburnum) is a large, upright, rounded, deciduous shrub adorned with maple-like leaves that emerge deep bronze-purple in spring and turn vibrant reddish-purple shades in the fall. In late spring, the shrub is covered with swirls of lacecap flower-heads composed of showy white sterile florets radiating around a central cluster of dark red buds. Lasting a few weeks in summer, the flowers are eventually replaced by sparse clusters of berries. A stunning shrub for all seasons, it is ideal for the back of the mixed border or as a handsome specimen.
