Hosta 'Fortunei aureomarginata' (Gold-Edged Plantain Lily) forms an attractive, dense mound of broad, heart-shaped, basal, mid-green leaves, 8-10 in, long (20-25cm), with conspicuous veins and irregular golden yellow margins. Racemes of funnel-shaped, mauve flowers appear in mid and late summer on scapes rising well above the foliage to 3 ft. tall (90 cm). But the primary contribution of this hosta is its lovely foliage which brings some color to shady areas.

  • Easy grower, Hosta 'Fortunei aureomarginata' grows 12-18 in. tall (30-45 cm) and spreads 18-24 in. (45-60 cm).
  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society
  • Performs best in light, sun-dappled shade in rich, moist, well-drained soils. Quite sun tolerant with adequate moisture, this plant is not fussy about soils and tolerates a wide range of conditions. Tolerates full shade.
  • Perfect for the shade gardens, mixed with other perennials, as a groundcoverunderplanting shrubs, or in containers.
  • Watch for slugs and snails which could damage the attractive foliage.
  • Originally found in Germany, this Hosta is low-maintenance and forgiving
  • Cut off the stems after blooming to encourage the plant's growth. Divide plants as needed in spring or fall.
  • Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses.
